BROADCAST DECENCY GROUP UPSET WITH KE$HA FOR DRINKING HER OWN URINE ON MTV

Kesha-2013

After months of hype, Tuesday night’s episode of Ke$ha‘s MTV reality show My Crazy Beautiful Life finally showed the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the singer apparently drinking her own urine.  And now the Parents Television Council, a broadcast decency advocacy group, is upset.

Ahead of the episode airing, the group posted a statement on its website asking its members to call “elected officials” and demand “consumer cable choice” — which is basically the ability to pick and choose which cable channels you want, rather than subscribing for one rate and getting them all.

Calling the content of the episode “disgusting and vile,” PTC’s president, Tim Winter, said, “If given the opportunity, I can’t imagine that parents would want to pay for a cable network that airs an episode of a pop star drinking her own urine, and that is why Congress needs to take seriously the idea of giving consumers the ability to choose and pay for only the cable networks they want.”

He added, “Before critics say that parents can just ‘change the channel,’ they miss the larger point.  It is an outrage that this kind of…content is being subsidized by each and every cable subscriber.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the PTC also sent a letter to supporters reading, “Why should we have to pay for this kind of garbage just so we can get access to Discovery, Disney or the Golf channel?  It’s outrageous — and it shouldn’t be that way.  Consumers deserve choice.”

TRAIN SETTING SAIL ON THEIR OWN FAN CRUISE

TRAIN

A few days ago, Train posted a photo on Twitter of lead singer Pat Monahan photoshopped to look like Captain Stubing from the classic ’70s TV show The Love Boat.  The caption was a line from that show’s theme song: “Come aboard, we’re expecting you.”  It was the band’s way of teasing what they finally announced on Wednesday: their ownfan cruise.

The Sail Across the Sun cruise leaves from Miami on February 14, 2014, and is being billed as “A Music, Food & Wine Festival at Sea.”  Since the band has several signature varieties of wine, as well as their own line of chocolate, it’s a perfect combination.

Fans will sail to Grand Cayman on the Norwegian Pearl, and in addition to enjoying two full Train concerts while on board, plus a Q&A and photos with the guys, they’ll also get to enjoy meals cooked by some of the band’s favorite chefs.  Other artists will be joining in the fun as well — they’ll be announced later.

You can visit SailAcrossTheSun.com now to get all the details, and register for a pre-sale in order to reserve your spot.  In case you didn’t get the reference, the cruise is named after a lyric in one of Train’s biggest hits “Drops of Jupiter” — “Tell me/did you sail across the sun/did you make it to the Milky Way.”

KATY PERRY GOES ON A HOLLYWOOD PROPERTIES SHOPPING SPREE

katy-perry-323

Katy Perry has forked over a good amount of cash to acquire two homes.

The Huffington Post reports Katy has purchased two properties encompassing three adjoining lots and approximately four acres of land in Hollywood Hills. The total cost: 11.2 million dollars.

Katy’s newly-acquired properties include two homes, one of which was previously owned by Bruce Springsteen‘s drummer Max Weinberg – who was Conan O’Brien‘s bandleader during O’Brien’s Late Night and Tonight Show stints — and Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s now-divorced parents.

Katy bought the properties in April in a blind trust. Her manager, Bernie Gudvi, is the trustee.

It was reported in April that Katy is selling the Hollywood Hills mansion she and her now-ex-husband, Russell Brand, purchased in 2011.

TAYLOR SWIFT RESPONDS TO KATY PERRY’S “TRUFFLE” TWEET

taylor-swift-dead

Taylor Swift’s already proven that she can poke fun at herself: she told Billboard that she thought the “goat” version of her hit “I Knew You Were Trouble” was “brilliant.”  Now, she’s giving Katy Perry props for making fun of the song as well.

Katy randomly tweeted on Wednesday, “I knew you were truffle when you walked in,” and added the hashtag “#dinnertime.”  Taylor wasted no time in retweeting her comment, and then wrote to Katy, “Please never change.”

It’s odd, however, that Katy would tweet about consuming something as delicious and indulgent as truffles, considering that right before that, she tweeted a photo of herself holding up three enormous bags of pills, capsules and tablets, along with the caption,  “I’m all about that supplement & vitamin LYFE!”

DESPITE RUMORS, KELLY CLARKSON WILL NOT JOIN “AMERICAN IDOL”

kelly-clarkson-3-6-13

While having Kelly Clarkson sitting on the judges’ panel of American Idol sounds like a pretty awesome idea, it’s not happening. That’s according to a rep for the singer, who tells The Hollywood Reporter that despite claims by both E! and New York magazine, Kelly has not inked a deal to be a judge on season 13 of the Fox show.

E! had said that a three-judge panel made up of Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and one other Idol alum — possibly Adam Lambert — was “95 percent there.”

However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Adam’s reps haven’t been contacted about a slot on the panel. Furthermore, an insider tells the publication that the producers’ first choice is actually to bring Jennifer Lopez back. In addition, the insider claims they’re eyeing Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am, but a source says it’s “doubtful” the rapper could fit it into his schedule.

Looks like it’s going to be a long summer of non-stop Idol rumors…buckle up.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE IS NAMED “MR. SATURDAY NIGHT 2013″

TIMBERLAKE-SNL6

For the second year in a row, readers of Entertainment Weekly‘s website EW.com have voted to determine who the best Saturday Night Live host was this past season.  The winner, perhaps to no one’s surprise, is Justin Timberlake.

Voting went on throughout the season until finally it came down to six names: Seth MacFarlane, Martin ShortJustin TimberlakeMelissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig and Ben Affleck.  Justin won handily, capturing just over 48 percent of the vote.  The runner-up was Melissa McCarthy, with just under 22 percent of the vote.

Justin’s episode, which aired in March, marked his fifth time as host, and as such, he was inducted into the exclusive Five-Timers Club, with help from guest stars like Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.  Over 90 minutes, Justin appeared as Elton John, reprised his classic “D**k in a Box” character with Andy Samberg, gave us another installment of the ongoing sidewalk hawker “Bring it on down to…” sketch and much more.   And if that wasn’t enough to prove his talent, Justin was also the musical guest that night.

It’s notable that three other chart-topping musicians who hosted this year did not make the final five: Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber and Adam Levine.

Rihanna has the most number-ones of any artist, male or female, with 10.

Ed Sheeran‘s follow-up to his U.S. debut album, + [Plus], is slowly coming together.

In an interview Sunday with Billboard at the Billboard Music Awards, the British artist said he’s finished writing the new album, and he plans to record the music in August.  He added, “The direction will take shape then.  The songs are good, which is the main thing.  I think you can have good songs and then you can put any sort of production behind it but as long as the songs are good.”

Ed reiterated that the album will drop early next year.  He explained, “It was going to be this year, but I don’t finish touring till October, and then there’s no time to get a plan together.  I’m going to spend October, November, December planning and then just smash it out next year.”

Ed is currently touring with his pal and NOT girlfriend Taylor Swift.

avril-lavigne-4-300

Now that Avril Lavigne’s new single “Here’s to Never Growing Up” is out, a new album will follow, with something special for fans.  Avril says she and her fiance, Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, have immortalized their love on the new record by singing together.

Chad and Avril co-wrote several songs for the album, including the single, but she tells MTV News that he also joins her for a duet on her album, which will her fifth studio disc.  It’s due in September.   Meanwhile, the couple is busy planning their wedding.

“It’s going pretty smooth. My wedding planner, she knows what she is doing, but there’s a lot that goes into it,” Avril tells MTV.  “Planning a wedding is almost like a full-time job. There’s a lot of details.”

The singer revealed to E! that she’s already picked out her wedding dress, so that’s done, but a lot remains to take care of.  Is Chad helping out?  Avril tells E!, “Of course he’s been really involved. He’s also been really cool with just letting me kinda taking the wedding in the direction I want to take it in.”

For his part, Chad tells E! that his involvement consists of taking in “a lot of the things that are presented to me, and I look at them on paper, and when I’m asked my opinion, I offer it very gently.”  He adds, “That’s the smartest thing I can possibly do because that big day is not about me. That big day is about her.”  Smart man.

Avril adds that while she and Chad want the nuptials to be “a very big event,” she added, “At the same time it’s small and it’s just close friends and close family.”
