BACKSTREET’S HOWIE DOROUGH AND WIFE CELEBRATE EARLY ARRIVAL OF SON #2

It’s a boy for Backstreet Boys‘ Howie Dorough and Leigh, his wife of five years.  On February 16, the couple celebrated the early arrival of their second son Holden JohnPeople magazine reports.

“Holden surprised us by arriving three days ahead of schedule at 6:37 a.m.,” Howie tells the magazine.  The baby weighed in at 6 lbs., 15 oz. and 20 inches long, and Howie says, “Holden is healthy and we couldn’t be happier… My beautiful wife Leigh and I are so proud to welcome our son to the world.”

During the interview, Howie had only praise for his wife, saying, “Leigh is such an incredible woman and mother… I feel so lucky to have such an amazing family.”  Equally excited about the new arrival, says Howie, is Holden’s older brother James Hoke, 3 1/2.

2013 marks the Backstreet Boys’ 20th anniversary and the group plans some special surprises to celebrate the occasion.

BRITNEY SPEARS’ MYSTERY MAN REVEALED…AS A REGULAR DUDE

The same mystery man who dined with Britney Spears on Valentine’s Day took her out golfing this past weekend, and now we know he’s just a regular dude named David.

According to TMZ, David is a 27-year-old who lives in Atlanta, and works as a “jack-of-all-trades” and field researcher for a law firm.  He was reportedly introduced to Britney by friends.  While he may be of modest means, David is a pretty generous tipper.  According to TMZ, during the Valentine’s Day dinner, David tipped $13 on the couple’s $60 bill at a sushi restaurant: slightly more than 20 percent.

Since her split from ex-fiance Jason Trawick, Britney and David have also been spending time together on the links, according to TMZ.   Apparently, David’s an avid golfer, and now Britney has taken a liking to the game.  This past weekend, the two were spotted together playing golf at the Sherwood Country Club near her California home, and TMZ reports that Britney is now considering becoming a member of the club.

BEYONCE SPECIALS GIVE BIG RATINGS TO HBO, OWN

The premiere of Beyonce‘s Life Is but a Dream documentary brought big ratings to HBO over the weekend.  The buzz over Bey also attracted 1.3 million viewers to the OWN network, which aired the star’s Oprah’s Next Chapter interview an hour before Life Is but a Dream debuted.

That’s all according to The Hollywood Reporter, which reports that Beyonce’s film gave HBO its most-watched documentary effort in nearly a decade.  The magazine reports that 1.8 million viewers caught the first airing of Life Is but a Dream.  That bested numbers brought by directorSpike Lee‘s miniseries When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts, which focused on Hurricane Katrina’s devastating effects in New Orleans.

CLIVE DAVIS RESPONDS TO KELLY CLARKSON’S ACCUSATIONS, SAYS HE’S “VERY SORRY” SHE’S UPSET

On Tuesday, Kelly Clarkson posted a lengthy rebuttal to record executive Clive Davis‘ autobiography The Soundtrack of My Life, saying that his recollections of their working relationship were “false,” and that the stories he recounted about the making of her albums never happened.  Now, Davis has responded via Twitter to Kelly’s criticisms.

“As anyone who has read The Soundtrack of My Life knows, I think Kelly Clarkson is a tremendous vocal talent and performer,” writes Davis, who signed and mentored legends like Janis JoplinBruce Springsteen and Whitney Houston.  Noting that he does detail his and Kelly’s “creative differences,” he adds, “I am truly very sorry that she has decided to take issue with what I know to be an accurate depiction of our time together.”

But how do we know that what Davis wrote was accurate?  “Before the book was published, I had every fact checked with five independent individuals who were present on a daily basis throughout it all,” he writes.  “The chapter as it is written was thoroughly verified by each and every one of them.”

He finishes by stating, “I stand by the chapter as written in my book. At the same time I wish, and will always wish, Kelly’s talent and her career to soar to ever new heights.”

In her posting, Kelly denied Davis’ contention that she “hated” her future smash “Since U Been Gone,” and burst into “hysterical sobs” when he insisted she include it on her album.  She also says, among other things, that Davis ridiculed her future hit “Because of You,” saying she was a terrible songwriter, and that he deliberately didn’t support her album My December, dooming it to less-than-spectacular sales.

She wrote, “I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up [Davis'] memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans. It feels like a violation.”

ONE DIRECTION, ADELE, COLDPLAY, FUN., RIHANNA, GOTYE COMPETE FOR “BRITISH GRAMMYS” WEDNESDAY IN LONDON

The Grammy Awards are over, the nominees for Canada’s Juno Awards have been announced (see related story) and Wednesday night in London, music’s top names will be competing for the Brit Awards, the U.K.’s top music prize.

The Brit Awards present trophies to British acts and so-called “international” acts, which is why everyone from Rihanna and Gotye, to fun. and Alicia Keys are nominated.  The ScriptTaylor Swift, The Killers, Bruce Springsteen and Michael Buble are also all nominated in the various international categories.

As for the British categories, Adele is up for British Single for her James Bond theme “Skyfall” and according to the BBC, she’s also in the running for a brand-new “global success” award, given to an artist who achieved exceptional international sales in 2012.   It’s not clear if she’ll make it to the show, though, since she’s been in the U.S. for the past few weeks rehearsing for her performance on the Oscars this Sunday night.

But even if she doesn’t show, the award show organizers have promised to “make amends” to the singer for forcing her to end her acceptance speech early last year.  You may recall that after she won the Best British Album prize, the host of the show cut her off because they were running out of time, leading Adele to very publicly flip the bird to those responsible.

Other nominees in that category include Alex Clare‘s “Too Close,” Coldplay‘s “Princess of China” and Jessie J‘s “Domino.”  Meanwhile, One Direction are up for British Group, and Calvin Harris and Olly Murs are up for British Male Solo Artist.

In a possibly awkward moment, both One Direction and Taylor Swift – who used to date 1D’s Harry Styles – are performing on the telecast.  Justin Timberlake will also be on hand, with the same big band that backed him up on the Grammy Awards earlier this month.

RIHANNA CELEBRATES HER 25TH BIRTHDAY

Happy birthday, Rihanna!  The singer, who was in London to debut her first-ever fashion collection a few days ago, turns 25 on Wednesday.

Maybe this time around Rihanna will celebrate her special day with confetti, and not controversy.  In case you’ve forgotten, Rih marked her 24th b-day by revealing that the mystery guest on her “Birthday Cake” remix was none other than Chris Brown.  The surprise musical reunion sparked mixed reaction from Rih’s fans, many whom argued that she shouldn’t be involved in any way with her ex after he assaulted her in 2009.

Still, that hasn’t stopped Rihanna and Chris from rekindling their relationship over the past year.  And in an interview with Rolling Stone last month, Rihanna talked about giving Chris another chance, explaining, “Even if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake.”  The statement is pretty similar to the one Rihanna made on her Chris-assisted Unapologetic track “Nobody’s Business.”  But since it’s her birthday, maybe we should all be prepared for another surprise song release.

ED SHEERAN MOVING INTO TAYLOR SWIFT’S TERRITORY

If you thought Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift were close before, just think how much closer they’ll be when they start living in the same city.  Ed’s planning to move to Nashville, Tennessee, which is where Taylor lives when she’s not touring the world.

Taylor isn’t the reason why Ed’s “setting up shop” in Nashville, though. He tells MTV he likes the fact that there’s so much music there — of all genres, not just country — and the fact that, for a British guy, it seems rather exotic.

“Nashville is wicked.  It’s like a proper music community, but it’s also quintessentially American,” Ed tells MTV.  “You bump into people there with cowboy hats that spit in jars and call you ‘boy.’  I just love that.”

Ed also tells MTV that his next album, the follow-up to the criticially-acclaimed debut album + [plus], is “pretty much finished,” but he won’t release it until 2014.  Right now, he says that the new disc is a “happier album” than his debut, but warns, “Maybe something really bad will happen within the next nine months and I’ll write about that.”

ALICIA KEYS NEEDS HELP FROM FANS ON HER LATEST PROJECT

Alicia Keys strikes out on her Set the World on Fire tour next month, which means she’ll be traveling all around the country, maybe even visiting the city you live in.  With that in mind, Alicia — who was named Global Creative Director for BlackBerry last month — is asking fans for help with her latest undertaking.

To promote the new BlackBerry 10 smartphone, Alicia has released a special video announcing the Keep Moving Projects.  In one clip, she explains that on her upcoming tour, she wants to get a feel for “the pulse” and “the people” of each city she visits during the trek.  Fans can help her discover what makes each place special by uploading a picture of themselves in their favorite local hangout.

Some of the images will be used in an on-stage video projection that will play during stops on Alicia’s tour.  Each city will get their own visual, so everyone is encouraged to get online and submit something representing their city.

For more information on getting involved, check out the BlackBerry website.
