ELTON JOHN TO RECEIVE POLAND’S MEDAL OF GRATITUDE

Sunday’s Elton John concert in the Polish seaside city of Sopot is one the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is unlikely to forget. Not only will the European nation welcome the global superstar with open arms, but former Polish president and trade union leader Lech Walesa will present him with the country’s Medal of Gratitude for his role in bringing down the former Communist regime. A member of the European Solidary Centre said, “We award this to foreigners who helped Poland during its long struggle for freedom. Sir Elton travelled to the country for a concert in 1984, when Communist army chief General Jaruzelski ruled Poland.”
