FREE DENTAL SCREENINGS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN!

SHASTA COUNTY – The Shasta Healthy Smiles Oral Health Program will be providing FREE dental screenings and fluoride varnish application services to young children ages 0-5 at the Health and Human Services Regional Enterprise office located at 2757 Churn Creek Road on Thursday, April 26 from 1:00-3:30 pm. Dental services are provided on a first come, first served basis and parental permission is required.

Too many children in Shasta County have limited access to dental services and suffer needlessly from tooth decay. A dental screening can help identify if a child is in need of dental treatment and fluoride varnish helps strengthen the enamel of the teeth, making the teeth more resistant to tooth decay. A dental screening does not take the place of regular dental visits. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children see the dentist for check-ups and cleanings at 6-month intervals starting at age 1.

The Shasta Healthy Smiles Oral Health Program’s dental screening and fluoride varnish services are funded by First 5 Shasta. For more information contact Megan L. Johnson, Oral Health Program Coordinator, at 229-8431 or by email at mljohnson@co.shasta.ca.us
